About the Role

We are seeking a proactive Health & Safety Assistant to support our commitment to a safe, compliant, and continuously improving working environment. Working closely with the Health & Safety Manager, you will play a key role in promoting a positive safety culture, supporting compliance, and helping drive initiatives that protect our people and the business.

This is a hands-on, operationally focused role with opportunities to influence safety practices, support process improvements, and gain exposure to regulatory compliance, audits, and integrated management systems within a dynamic manufacturing environment.

What you'll be doing

  • Support the Health & Safety Manager in conducting audits, inspections, and risk assessments, and monitor the completion of corrective actions.
  • Assist with recording, investigating, and reporting accidents and near misses, ensuring documentation is accurate and timely.
  • Deliver Health & Safety inductions for new employees and support ongoing safety training initiatives, including Toolbox Talks.
  • Help maintain a safe working environment for staff, visitors, and contractors by monitoring compliance with safety standards, including office and production areas.
  • Carry out office safety activities such as fire drills, first aid, and fire warden duties.
  • Support the creation and review of standard operating procedures (SOPs), and forms to maintain the integrated management system.
  • Assist with third-party accreditation audits and ensure contractor and haulier records are complete, including safety inductions.
  • Monitor the safe use of company vehicles, including forklifts, lorries, and cars, supporting audits and compliance checks.
  • Attend Health & Safety meetings and record minutes, ensuring action items are followed up.
  • Take an active role in promoting a culture of safety awareness and continuous improvement.
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties as required by the Health & Safety Manager.

About You

You'll need to have:

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in Health & Safety within manufacturing or a similar environment.
  • A proactive, hands-on approach with a passion for maintaining a safe working environment.
  • Interest in health and safety law and regulations, with the ability to understand and apply requirements.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage and motivate people at all levels.
  • Confidence to raise concerns and challenge appropriately when necessary.
  • Logical thinker with strong problem-solving skills and a systematic approach.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

It would be great if you have:

  • NEBOSH certification or equivalent.
  • Membership of the Institute of Occupational Safety & Health (IOSH).
