About the Role
We are seeking a proactive Health & Safety Assistant to support our commitment to a safe, compliant, and continuously improving working environment. Working closely with the Health & Safety Manager, you will play a key role in promoting a positive safety culture, supporting compliance, and helping drive initiatives that protect our people and the business.
This is a hands-on, operationally focused role with opportunities to influence safety practices, support process improvements, and gain exposure to regulatory compliance, audits, and integrated management systems within a dynamic manufacturing environment.

What you'll be doing
- Support the Health & Safety Manager in conducting audits, inspections, and risk assessments, and monitor the completion of corrective actions.
- Assist with recording, investigating, and reporting accidents and near misses, ensuring documentation is accurate and timely.
- Deliver Health & Safety inductions for new employees and support ongoing safety training initiatives, including Toolbox Talks.
- Help maintain a safe working environment for staff, visitors, and contractors by monitoring compliance with safety standards, including office and production areas.
- Carry out office safety activities such as fire drills, first aid, and fire warden duties.
- Support the creation and review of standard operating procedures (SOPs), and forms to maintain the integrated management system.
- Assist with third-party accreditation audits and ensure contractor and haulier records are complete, including safety inductions.
- Monitor the safe use of company vehicles, including forklifts, lorries, and cars, supporting audits and compliance checks.
- Attend Health & Safety meetings and record minutes, ensuring action items are followed up.
- Take an active role in promoting a culture of safety awareness and continuous improvement.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties as required by the Health & Safety Manager.
About You
You'll need to have:
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in Health & Safety within manufacturing or a similar environment.
- A proactive, hands-on approach with a passion for maintaining a safe working environment.
- Interest in health and safety law and regulations, with the ability to understand and apply requirements.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage and motivate people at all levels.
- Confidence to raise concerns and challenge appropriately when necessary.
- Logical thinker with strong problem-solving skills and a systematic approach.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
It would be great if you have:
- NEBOSH certification or equivalent.
- Membership of the Institute of Occupational Safety & Health (IOSH).
