I first developed a love of engineering as a teenager after winning the UK championship of an engineering competition. It showed me the endless possibilities that engineering could create, and I never looked back. Since then, I've worked on a range of different products for a number of different industries, from composite materials to micro electrical mechanical systems and now with Smiley Monroe on the journey to revolutionise belt conveying.
As Product Development Manager I oversee a range of different development projects and product improvements. We're focused on innovating to support our smart and sustainable future whilst continually adapting to meet the evolving needs of the industry. In my role it's crucial to stay up to date with the latest technologies and we've built strong relationships with research institutions and subject matter experts.
Research and development are very important to us and we have collaboration from all areas of the business to plan for the full product life cycle. We're now at the stage where we're planning the final testing and launch of some game changing new products.
We asked Rachael what she enjoys most about her role:
“I love seeing all the products that we are developing come to life and the difference that they will make. The possibilities are endless especially as we are keen to work with the latest technologies and drive change in the industry to more sustainable solutions.”
We asked Rachael what her favourite benefit is:
“My favourite benefit has been the 4-day working week. I have a 23 year old Fiesta that I'm continually working on and this gives me the time to do that.”
We asked Rachael what makes her proud to work for Smiley Monroe:
“I love seeing the change that Smiley Monroe is driving, the focus on quality, sustainability and innovation. The team really care about making the best products possible.”
We asked Rachael what her favourite engagement event has been:
“My favourite event has been the charity coffee morning, especially since I love to bake.”
We asked Rachael who she admires the most and why:
“The person I admired the most was my Granda. He was an electrician and worked on a range of projects including the builds of new sea planes. Even at home he was always building and fixing things and took great joy in our conversations about all things engineering.”
